Berg is die naam van ‘n graafskap in die hoek van Gelderland wat die gebied van die teenswoordige Heerenberg insluit, sowel as ‘n gebied wat tans in Duitsland geleë is en waaraan ook Emmerik behoort. Dit het waarskynlik ontstaan deur onderverdeling van die Graafskap Zutphen; die oudste bekende besitter daarvan was Constantinus de Monti (of van den Berg), wat in die jaar 1064 genoem word.
The symbols in the Berg family crest and arms are numerous, but three common ones are the mountain, lion, and eagle.
The mount (also known as a hillock) is the area at the base of the shield and when so described is almost always green, and somewhere that another charge is placed, to appear more realistic, or give it a specific relationship to other charges around it.
